Never for a moment did it cross my mind that rain might be an issue in October, in Charters Towers, and yet here we were on the day of this long await shoot … overcast. Luckily it was all a threat and it ended up giving us an utterly gorgeous sunset and spectacular skies.
The Skillington family live on a property southeast of Charters Towers near the Burdekin dam, my husband had done some work there earlier in the year and so this time I took the whole tribe with me. To get to the property we had to cross the dam wall, so naturally, we tried our luck at fishing, with my husband dreaming of landing a big barra (it’s still a dream). Since the fishing part of our trip was a bust, we arrived with time to spare, which of course suited the kids and after 30 seconds of shyness, they were off. After a few beers and even more tales, it was time pry the kids away for some photos - not an easy feat but the promise of playing on the hay bales did soften the blow.
Even though I was told that not all of them were openly affectionate, I could see the love radiating out of each individual. There were countless laughs, a little bit of camera shyness and limitless admiration for one another.
These four were an absolute treat to be around and we had a fantastic afternoon, which continued into the night. There were many similarities between their family and ours and over the few hours a wonderful connection was formed - not to mention these gorgeous photos below 😍

I thank you immensely for inviting not only myself into your home, but also my entire family. Each one of us enjoyed our brief time with you and talked about it for the long drive home. Thank you for trusting me to capture you all at this point in time and I trust that you will cherish these images more as time passes. I look forward to more beers and yarns in the future.
