Kate + Tom || A Port Douglas Wedding || Port Douglas Wedding Photographer

22.8.2019 @ 4pm - St Mary’s by the Sea - Port Douglas

It was a loving and intimate affair. The guests, just close family, travelled from all over to shower Tom and Kate with love on this most important of days. There was a massive total of 14 Kiwis who descended upon Port Douglas for a quite Thursday wedding, some actually came from New Zealand … the rest already live in Australia.

To break with tradition it was the boys who were dragging the chain, a little flustered and not at all ready when I arrived at the beautiful Executive Retreats holiday home, just north of Port Douglas. It was much calmer when I headed around the corner to the meet up with Kate and her family, all of which where dressed and ready to make the journey into the quaint white church by the sea, but first the bride needed to adorn her beaded, silk lined (very heavy) Karen Willis Holmes gown. Kate did mention that in back home in Port Headland, WA, gowns and high heels weren’t her normal attire but I’m not so sure I believe her as she did not miss a beat all day and seemed right at home in the elegant, designer dress. After showing Dad his little girl all grown up and ready for her wedding day, we all made the 30min drive south to Port Douglas.

St Mary’s by the Sea is the epitome of Port Douglas weddings and I could not think of a better place to be wed than in heritage listed church by the waterfront. Tom, who made great time in getting dressed and looked the part in bow tie and suit, was already waiting when I arrived. It was only moments later when the beauty of the day arrived and the ceremony could begin. Anna, the celebrate, told the story of Tom and Kate’s life long connection and how after they meet at age 10 their friendship grew into the wonderful, loving connection they now have. Finally after all this time the day ended with a new Mr and Mrs.

The family gathered for celebratory drinks in the gardens outside the church while bride, groom and I made the most of the magnificent location and superb weather. After the sun set I parted ways with this warm and affectionate family as they returned to their holiday home for an intimate, delicious dinner catered by Port Douglas Catering and Events.

Tom and Kate had a few more days in tropical North Queensland before the call of the real world got to great and they returned home. From the deepest depths of my heart I wish them both the most wonderful of lives together and am humbled to have been invited to be apart of it in some small way.
