Cheriese + Boys || A Townsville Family

Don’t burn through
so fast
let us linger here
a little longer
breath catching
twilight air
blowing through
like smoke clouds
chasing light
— Cheriese Francoise

These boys without a doubt are full on and their Mumma, a saint. But their’s is the kind of chaos that fills hearts and spirits rather than depletes it. Their love is irresistible, even if is it masked behind a touch a teenage apprehension.

Cheriese booked this session with me last year and one thing lead to another and it’s now been nearly twelve months in the making. For me, the pressure of expectations unspoken weighed heavily as I met the family at Alma Bay, Magnetic Island but after initial introductions, any insecurities quickly faded as I was swept up by their infectious energy.

I am pretty certain that there could be no better location. Cheriese and her three boys spent the day revelling in the spring time warmth at Alma Bay, soaking up the joys of salt water and sand. It was early afternoon when I joined them and the bay was mostly ours, the sea breeze cool and refreshing and the sun rays warm and golden. We climbed rocks and explored their hidden secrets. There were many cuddles and much love shared. I learned of a mother’s love that would move mountains and raise glorious men. The boys outwardly showed that photos were not their thing but occasionally through this facade I would glimpse the excitement of being up to record their mother’s memories*.

While it is always wonderful to capture the connection between the whole family, with Dad included, there is something special about only recording the maternal bond. It is a bond that is different and indescribable which makes it monumental to transcribe. It excites me when I am asked to do so.

Cheriese is an artist in her own right, the poem at the beginning is her creation. She is magic with words and hair and you can follow her artistry:

* This is not the first time I have heard of kids being encouraged to take part in a session, “for Mummy’s memories”, it always seems to work well if you ever need to use it.

To Cheriese + Boys
This was a session that was worth the wait. I can sense who you are within each image and I love that you all so openly shared this with me. I look forward to watching these precious young hearts develop into find men, which no doubt they will, as testament to their mother’s love.
xx
