Back in February when Townsville was getting it’s fair share of rain I joined with a number of other local photographers to bring a little light into the lives of those affected. I (being myself) wanted to do it a little differently and instead of giving a photo session to those who had been displaced due to flooding, I gave mine to those who gave up their homes and took in family and friends. These people were nominated by strangers and loved ones and even though it’s just something you do in a time of crisis, it goes to show what big beautiful hearts they have.
Kirstin and Bennett gave up their home and their bed. They slept on stretchers and had everything rearranged, all while they continued to work, on little sleep (I’m told stretchers aren’t that comfortable). They had twelve people living with them, friends, family, young, old, pregnant and babies, you name it, it was in their house. Through it all they continued to give and even though it drained them they gave even more of themselves. Their act of human compassion, decency and love did not go unnoticed and I had the pleasure of offering something (even though small) back to them.
To Kirstin + BennettFirstly thank you for all that you have done for your family and friends this year, that alone goes to show was wonderful people you are. Secondly, thanks for showing up and having your photo taken by me, Kirstin you could barely keep your hands off Bennett and even though he may never perfect the ‘drunk walk’ I can see what a catch you have. Enjoy your photos and what a wonderful life you will have together.
